How AfroLikes Works

Buying with confidence

AfroLikes is a curated marketplace, not an open one. Everything you can buy or book here comes from a House we have verified: a real business, with real people behind it, whether it trades in the UK, across Africa or in the Caribbean. Every order also has one address to write to if anything goes wrong.

To us, luxury is measured in quality: exceptional materials, mastery of craft, and service worthy of both. You should never need a leap of faith to buy something beautiful.

How we verify every House

Before a House lists a single piece or offers a single appointment, it is checked against a standard set by our founder, who spent more than a decade working in financial crime and regulation. We look at three things.

The business

  • That it is registered and active in the country where it trades
  • Its trading history, and evidence that it delivers what it promises: reviews, past orders and lead times it can keep

The people behind it

  • Who owns it and who runs it
  • Sanctions, politically exposed person and adverse-media screening

The work itself

  • A review of the pieces or the service, to our standard of quality, before the House is accepted
  • Real photographs: every image on a listing is supplied by the House and shows the actual piece. We do not accept AI-generated or AI-altered product photographs.

Verification is not a badge a House can buy. Every House passes it before it can sell on AfroLikes, and keeps to our standard to stay.

Who you buy from

When you order on AfroLikes, you buy from the House, and the contract of sale is between you and them. AfroLikes acts as the House's commercial agent. We conclude the sale on the House's behalf and take your payment for them, so once you have paid AfroLikes, you have paid the House. The same applies when you book a service.

Your rights as a customer are held against the House. We handle returns and complaints on the House's behalf, so you deal with one address rather than a stranger's inbox.

What Buyer Protection means here

Every House verified

Every House passes the checks above before you see its work.

One returns standard

Every House agrees to the same returns standard. On ready-to-wear pieces, you have 14 days from delivery to change your mind. Made-to-measure and personalised pieces are the exception, because they are made to your measurements or your design. We say so clearly, before you pay, on every listing where it applies. If anything arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, it is put right.

One address

Write to hello@afrolikes.com. We handle it on the House's behalf and see it through to the end.

Your card's own protections

Payment is taken securely at checkout, and your card provider's protections apply as they would to any card purchase. AfroLikes never asks you to pay outside checkout, and never by bank transfer. If anyone claiming to represent us ever does, please tell us.

Pieces and services, together

An occasion is rarely one purchase. It is the cloth, then the tailor who cuts it; the hair, then the stylist who styles it.

Every collection brings together pieces to buy and services to book, from a fitting to a hair appointment. Some Houses offer both. With them, you buy the cloth and commission the tailoring in one order: your measurements are confirmed before anything is cut, and the lead time is stated before you pay.

Buying from one House and booking another to complete it, in a single order, is what we call the Lifestyle Loop. It is what we are building next, with our founding Houses.

Delivery and lead times

Ready-to-wear pieces are sent within the time stated on the listing, with tracking. Made-to-order pieces carry a stated making time, always shown before you pay and never a surprise afterwards.

Weddings and celebrations do not reschedule. Every House states lead times it can keep, and we hold them to it.

Prices

Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include any VAT that applies. Houses outside the UK send their pieces duty paid, so nothing is collected on your doorstep. Delivery is shown before you pay, and nothing else is added at checkout.

When our doors open

Our doors open to guests once our twenty founding Houses have been verified and welcomed. Join the Guestlist for a first look at each House and first access when we open. If you would like your House to be one of the twenty, apply for a founding place.
